What is the difference between TEFL and TESOL?

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and is used mainly in Britain while TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other languages and is used mainly in the United States of America. They are basically the same

What is the difference between the Certificate 120 course and the Diploma course?

The Certificate course is ideal for those who wish to gain an initial qualification. It is endorsed by EDI at level four.

It covers the same basic syllabus as the Diploma but in less depth and can be completed in around four to six weeks.

There are twelve units with end of unit tests and a final exam. You send these to your personal tutor normally by email and he or she will mark the work for you and provide feedback and a final grade.

The Diploma is more academic and covers the syllabus in greater depth. It is endorsed by EDI at level 5. It is of a higher level and usually attracts better working conditions and salary. It consists of four modules and a total of eight stimulating and challenging assignments. It can usually be completed in eight to twelve weeks.

Please note that all our courses are designed to allow each student to complete  at their own pace in their own time. There are no time limits for completion.

Who are EDI ?

EDI  are a British government recognized accreditation board

How can I be sure that I can successfully pass the course?

Your personal tutor will provide guidance and feedback and point out any weak areas for you to work on. You can submit assignments and other work as many times as you need until a pass is attained. If necessary you tutor can provide additional materials to assist you.

What do I do if I find something I can't understand?

You  have unlimited access to a tutor while you are enrolled and even when you complete the course we will help you with any questions you might have about finding work etc.

How is my work for the Diploma marked?

You simply send your completed assignments to your personal tutor. There are two assignments for each of the four modules. You will be given a grade for each assignment and your final grade will be based on the average grade you earned. There are also some self correcting exercises within each module that will help you to monitor your progress.

What are the job prospects for EFL teachers?

English as a foreign language is a huge industry employing hundreds of thousands of teachers in almost every country of the world. Your tutors themselves have trained hundreds of teachers who are currently employed in a wide variety of locations  TESOL/TEFL is a recession proof profession and it has been predicted that the demand for qualified teachers will double in the current decade.

Is the course open to non-native speakers of English?

The course is available to both native and non-native speakers of English. Your tutors would tell you that some of their most successful course members have been non-native speakers.

What qualification do I receive upon completion of the course?

Upon successful completion of the Diploma course, you will receive the 'London Teacher Training College Diploma in TESOL', along with the overall grade.  You will also receive a diploma at level 5 from EDI. 

Upon successful completion of the Certificate 120 course, you will receive the 'London Teacher Training College Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language' You will also receive a certificate at level four from EDI.

There is no qualification for the 'Taster ' course

Certificate in TEFL

EDI Endorsed Level 4

The Certificate in TEFL 120 program is endorsed by EDI at level four. It is a very practical course that allows you to gain, the necessary skills and techniques to become an effective and successful teacher

The accompanying transcript states that a minimum of 120 hours of study was undertaken

 

Diploma in TESOL

EDI Endorsed Level 5

The Diploma in TESOL is endorsed by EDI at level five

It takes a slightly more academic approach to language awareness, phonology and classroom management techniques etc

The transcript states that a minimum of 180 of study were undertaken to successfully complete the program

 

Specialised Courses
